new

artistically messy
is the sort of look i'm going for rather than just plain messy
images 2, 6, 7, and 8 don't 100% embody the feel of what i want but they're elements from where i got bits of inspiration:
in image 2- pretty clothes sprawled over on a chair. not in a disgusting half-folded tower, or a whole jumble of fabric
in image 6- really just the idea of having clothes as decoration (also want to do a similar kind of clothes rack)
in image 7- really i just liked the mirror leaning against the wall slightly covered up by the huge plant
in image 8- STORAGE BOXES. the inside of those boxes probably looks like a whole jungle of random stuff from pens, to socks you forgot you owned but noone will ever know.

i have two days off from classes (today and tues) and though the procrastinator in me is dreading them, this room just isn't doing it for me (don't think it ever did) and i will take advantage of this time

i have to get:
-mirror
-wall clock
-black boxes for storage

i also have a glass shelf that i haven't gotten up yet but i'll get that done tomorrow

current

current views of my stupid room
as i just got back from a little weekend trip, the floor is messier than usual, covered with various pairs of shoes (some with socks just hanging inside them)

when i first moved in here and had actual furniture i envisioned myself working my hardest to keep a perfect room: bed always made, shoes neatly lined up if not put away, clutter-free dresser tops, and definitely the absence of the tower of clothes next to my dresser, (far left, image 2) that i didn't bother to show in detail
obviously that hasn't worked out and instead of being disappointed over not having a perfectly neat room, i'm embracing my already evident style and taking it a step further

return

I am going back to school tomorrow after an... 8 month vacation! Jesus christ, it's been forever since I sat in a classroom. Anyways, a while ago I made a polyvore strictly for school looks. I guess I'm going to start recreating them now

Some of my favorites:

quiet girl

trendy & simple

muted chic

There's a ton more that I haven't published yet and I'll go back to doing that tomorrow.
In fact, tomorrow I'll make a polyvore post of what I actually wore to school.

Follow please!

extremes

It dawned on me tonight, after reading comments on a 'shoe-unboxing' youtube video, how there are different meanings of 'style' to different people. While it's obvious there are many different actual styles- grungy, simple, girly, etc- there are essentially two extremes: loud and subtle, and whoever belongs to one school of thought will completely reject and demean the other.
There are tons of blogs out there of young people in electric green jeffrey campbell 6-inch platforms or something just as outrageous, while there also blogs that show outfits as simple as a fitted white shirt with equally fitted pants.
I have tons of blogs I could link (and images to include) displaying either style but for the sake of this opinion piece, I'll leave that up to the imagination. I follow both types of blogs because honestly, I'm not completely at one end. if the extremes go from -100 to +100, I would say I'm somewhere around..... +60, leaning towards subtlety.
I can instantly think of a time when I judged my aunt (who has lived in Peru her entire life and went to visit in Miami) for wearing a *picture it*... light turquoise spaghetti-string sundress with yellow flowers on it, at 9 pm in the middle of december (before you ask, yes miami is that hot but that's not the point!). I can also remember how she, in turn, judged us for -always- wearing black or other basic colors. One side thinks the other is tacky, one side thinks the other is boring.
Other than the obvious difference between these styles, I would think the biggest stand-out point that really holds the 'subtle-class' up in terms of fashion is that the subtlety in the minimalism of the clothes one wears doesn't simply show our taste (in cuts, colors, prints [or lack of]) but also a thought, a view of life. It gives a message that "I'm not interested in dressing like I am the opening act of a circus, or constantly attracting the attention of anyone that happens to look my way out of the corner of their eye. It's simple for you to grab something off the rack at urban outfitters but it's challenging for me to find anything aesthetically interesting. And it's challenging because I put thought into it."

the new year will bring

It's new year's eve as I write this (though this probably may not get published until days later) and all I can think about, other than champagne and the resolutions I hope will get done, is how to add something to my everyday style. I've never been one for accessories- necklaces, scarves, rings, belts, you name it, I hate it. To me, they were always these trendy pieces that you needed to own in every different color or else it wouldn't match what you wear wearing, so opted to never even wear them at all. I have like 3 rings, all silver, that I only wear when I remember they exist.
However, as of late I've been thinking that it's time to break away from that mentality and slowly but surely, incorporate them into my dressing routine. Browsing around the American Apparel website (which I tend to do like twice a week, embarrassing I know), I decided to pop into the accessories section and thought hats would be easy enough to wear day-to-day or when the outfit called for it. So I've settled for the summer hat (first picture) but I'm not too sure on the color yet. I also have in mind buying the wool beret (second picture).
And I will make hats my 'thing' now

loving men's....

I lately have been so inspired by menswear. It seems that the specific looks that inspire me are very similar: long sleeve boxy tops, little thigh-baring shorts, peek-a-boo socks, and heavy shoes (kind of). I wish I had the chance to wear all of these looks but I'm missing pieces, such as shorts which are a key part to the outfits.
I think the look I'm most excited to wear is look 2. For ages my mum has had this amazing bright orange corduroy button down in her closet that she never seems to wear and I thought paring it with just black would kind of make you look like a pumpkin but I love how it looks here

latest tip

out of boredom, i painted little hearts on my nail tips last night and everything came out great until i got to my left hand, which was a complete and utter disaster. the polish barely resembles hearts up close!
anyways, they're quite a cute way to "renew" a week-long manicure that may have some chips. i might do it more often if i ever get any better at it

1 OPI bubble bath (base)
2 OPI william tell me about opi (hearts)
